Last week ago
“Last week ago” is my favourite Alex-ism right now. (There are so many good ones, like “have to try and avoid that,” and “we’re alllll cats.”) But this one combines his growing sense of time with a subtly mutated idiom in an unutterably cute three-word package.
“So, Alex, when did you stay overnight at Grandma and Granda’s house?”
“Last week ago I did that.”
I love <b>s
It’s a gaming/semantic markup crossover pun. Trust me, it’s funny.

Note to self
Must read this on Friday morning:
- A job interview is not a test of my worth as a human being
- Getting through to the next round of an interview series, or being offered a job, is not a validation of my existence
- If offered a job, I am not under any kind of obligation to accept it
- Accepting a good offer for a bad job leads to stress, misery, self-doubt, and despair
- A job interview is the prime (and possibly only) opportunity to find out if the job is bad for me. Use this opportunity wisely.
Love iTunes, starting to hate iTunes Music Store
Out of the five last CDs I’ve bought or wanted to buy, how many could I get at the iTunes Music Store (UK)? Nil.
- Mutual Admiration Society – Mutual Admiration Society (bought at Borders)
- Franz Ferdinand – Franz Ferdinand (bought at HMV)
- Dogs Die In Hot Cars – Please Describe Yourself (bought at HMV)
- Steve Winwood – About Time (will be buying on-line somewhere)
- The Finn Brothers – Everyone Is Here (likewise)
I guess I’m not mainstream enough.
Scary place
Alex has a jigsaw puzzle that is a map of Europe. Being designed for three-year-olds, it includes cute, stereotypical cartoons for each country. Scotland has a kilted bagpiper, Spain has a flamenco dancer, and Romania has a…vampire.

As we were putting it together this evening, Alex explained to me:
“That’s a scary place. It’s got ouchy things that could make you dead.”
I’m sure the Romanian Tourist Office will be pleased that this message is getting across to toddlers.
