Haldeman is a great writer, and reading his diary entries is fascinating.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Design:<\/strong>  From Boxes and Arrows, &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.boxesandarrows.com\/archives\/ten_quotable_moments_challenges_and_responses_for_ui_designers.php\">Ten Quotable Moments: Challenges and Responses for UI Designers<\/a>&#8220;, an article by Brian R. Krause about some typical issues that User Interface designers encounter.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Design:<\/strong>  <a href=\"http:\/\/www.adobe.com\/support\/techguides\/printpublishing\/main.html\">Typography lessons from Adobe<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Techie:<\/strong>  <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cabezal.com\/blog\/archives\/000514.shtml\">Javascript objects are also, in fact, hashtables<\/a>.  I learned this about four years ago, and then completely forgot about it until last month.  Nuts. Writing concise prose is hard.  There&#8217;s a quote, variously attributed to Mark Twain or George Bernard Shaw: &#8220;I didn&#8217;t have time to write a short letter, so I wrote a long one instead.&#8221;  True.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Techie:<\/strong> A simple introduction to <a href=\"http:\/\/dogma.net\/markn\/articles\/lzw\/lzw.htm\">data compression with the LZW algorithm<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Funny:<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.livejournal.com\/users\/jwz\/230575.html\">What happens<\/a> when you replace the word &#8220;wand&#8221; with &#8220;wang&#8221; in the Harry Potter books?<\/li>\n<li><strong>Amazing:<\/strong> The BBC is going to give the public <a href=\"http:\/\/news.bbc.co.uk\/1\/hi\/entertainment\/tv_and_radio\/3177479.stm\">full access<\/a> to its archives.  <a href=\"http:\/\/www.oblomovka.com\/entries\/2003\/08\/24#1061749500\">Danny O&#8217;Brien writes<\/a> about why this is a hugely significant move.  I love the idea.  For a monthly fee (the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tv-l.co.uk\/\">TV License fee<\/a>) we get to download stuff at will.  It&#8217;s going to work for the BBC.  Is it really too much to ask for the music industry to take a look at the business model?<\/li>\n<li><strong>Iraq:<\/strong> Nice one, USA.  Nice one, Britain.
