{"id":2506,"date":"2014-04-19T10:56:35","date_gmt":"2014-04-19T08:56:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sunpig.com\/martin\/?p=2506"},"modified":"2014-04-19T10:56:35","modified_gmt":"2014-04-19T08:56:35","slug":"linode-wow","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sunpig.com\/martin\/2014\/04\/19\/linode-wow\/","title":{"rendered":"Linode wow"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last week, Linode announced <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.linode.com\/2014\/04\/09\/introducing-hourly-billing\/\">hourly billing<\/a> for their servers; this week they announced that they&#8217;re putting <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.linode.com\/2014\/04\/17\/linode-cloud-ssds-double-ram-much-more\/\">SSDs in <em>all<\/em> their servers<\/a>, doubling RAM for all plans, upgrading network capacity, and slapping in hot new CPUs as well. This is just&#8230;wow.<\/p>\n<p>For the one essential service I run (not this blog), I use a Linode server for production (because of performance), and have backup and test servers on AWS (because of hourly billing). Because I have the server setup all scripted with Chef, getting a new machine up and running is easy, but having two different control panels is slightly annoying. With hourly billing on Linode, I&#8217;ll just move the backup and test server over there. And moving from spinning disks to SSDs is going to make some of the DB queries a <em>lot<\/em> faster.
