{"id":2658,"date":"2007-10-11T00:00:29","date_gmt":"2007-10-10T22:00:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sunpig.com\/abi\/?p=2658"},"modified":"2014-01-19T22:56:35","modified_gmt":"2014-01-19T21:56:35","slug":"the-forest-fires-burn-hotter","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sunpig.com\/abi\/2007\/10\/11\/the-forest-fires-burn-hotter\/","title":{"rendered":"The forest fires burn hotter"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The forest fires burn hotter<br \/>But campfire coals are richer<br \/>Till quenched by sand and water<br \/>From fire-pail and pitcher.<br \/>The lust for human glimmer<br \/>Made all I had seem lightless.<br \/>My hoarded fires burned dimmer<br \/>In contrast to Man&#8217;s brightness.<\/p>\n<p>To feed my need for fires<br \/>I left my mountain fastness.<br \/>A gleam like flaming pyres<br \/>Entranced me through the vastness.<br \/>Beyond my wooded valley<br \/>I saw a light, bright-burning<br \/>I made a winging sally<br \/>Emboldened by my yearning.<\/p>\n<p>The roads were rich with red lights<br \/>Like coals they shone. I craved them<br \/>Yet brighter glowed the headlights.<br \/>I burned to keep, to save them.<br \/>But other sparkles drew me<br \/>As bees are drawn to flowers.<br \/>For I could, as I flew, see<br \/>The neon-shining towers.<\/p>\n<p>I found a roof and landed<br \/>Where shadows would surround me.<br \/>My hidden perch commanded<br \/>A view of all around me.<br \/>And what I saw amazed me<br \/>When peering through the windows.<br \/>What did men as they gazed see<br \/>In panels with their dim glows?<\/p>\n<p>I stayed awhile and learned from<br \/>The humans with their bright things.<br \/>I heard of &#8220;cash&#8221;, and earned some,<br \/>Enough to buy the right things.<br \/>For in the nights, while dreaming,<br \/>I knew that I must go back.<br \/>My hidden fires, still gleaming,<br \/>Without my care would go black.<\/p>\n<p>Returning to my treasures<br \/>Within the mountains lightless<br \/>I rediscovered pleasures<br \/>Outwith electric brightness.<br \/>The embers glowed more redly<br \/>The fires had brighter spark<br \/>The lightning looked more deadly<br \/>Against a forest&#8217;s dark.<\/p>\n<p>But still I miss the cities<br \/>That glisten, gleam and shine<br \/>With countless coloured pretties<br \/>All crying to be mine.<br \/>But Wi-fi goes a long way,<br \/>And now my laptop&#8217;s working.<br \/>I buy my lights on eBay,<br \/>And on this blog I&#8217;m lurking.<\/p>\n<p>Originally posted on <a href=\"http:\/\/nielsenhayden.com\/makinglight\/archives\/009436.html\">Making Light<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The forest fires burn hotterBut campfire coals are richerTill quenched by sand and waterFrom fire-pail and pitcher.The lust for human glimmerMade all I had seem lightless.My hoarded fires burned dimmerIn contrast to Man&#8217;s brightness.
